The Dead 50's - Chameleon Club - 5/24/01

Harrisburg's premiere rockabilly trio have been touring the local music scene for the past year, and most recently returned from a successful string of gigs in L.A.

Currently on tour in support of their latest release, "Standing On The Edge Of Forever", D5 stopped by for an intimate set at The Lizard Lounge.

The guys delivered an awesome set as usual, to include a good mix of tunes off of their first album, as well as "Short Bus" and "All-E-All" off of their latest release. The Dead 50's rocked the house with some unique covers such as Nena's "99"(Red Luft Balloons), Juice Newton's "Angel"(Believe me, you've never heard that song like this before!!), The Misfits "138", and a Ramones medley paying tribute to the late, great, Joey Ramone. All were done in true D5 form. The band is currently writing new material, and also performed a brand new song titled "Unfaded".

The Dead 50's unique sound is derived from a wide variety of musical influences such as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Misfits, H2O, Motley Crue, and "old" Metallica. Their lyrical content deals with issues like friendships (as in "Beautiful Thing"), relationships (as in "Long Way Back" and "Heck Of A Guy"), loneliness and depression ("All-E-All" and "When Life Is Too Much"). Their music is fun, positive, and uplifting; as are their live shows. The mature song writing ability and old school guitar riffs of Chris Moody, re-enforced by the solid backbone rhythms of Bassist Eric Bess and Drummer Shawn Miller, make up the raw Rock n' Roll of the Dead 50's. It's good time Rock n' Roll!! I want to thank the guys for hanging out with me, I had a great time and am looking forward to seeing them play again!
