The Silo Nightclub in Reading with Mary Prankster, Aztec Trip, The Clarks, Johnny Action Figure, The Phobes, and Art School.
I got to this gig a little late and didn’t pay as much attention as I should have. I got the chance to interview
Art School, a band hailing from Spain. That interview, in its entirety will be available soon. The one act that
did stand out was Mary Prankster. This chick knows how to rock and she has a healthy sense of humor
when it comes to falling in love (or lust, as I’m sure she’d rather have it) and getting fucked over. Her
set was comprised of punky, hard-core originals that left the crowd screaming for more. Everyone
pays attention to Mary and with good reason, they want to hear just what she’ll say next. I plan to
get out again to hear her very soon and at that time will provide more information.

The Revolution Club in Milton, PA with Pure, Grudge, Dead Leaves, Nevermoure, Throttle 5 and 6Gig
First of all, if you haven’t been to the Revolution Club, try to get there. It’s an amazing venue to see
live music. The place is big and there’s not a bad spot in the house. It’s a great place to get drunk
and get loose and Jeff, the owner of the club, knows exactly what bands you want to get drunk and
get loose listening to. This short won’t do any of the bands that I saw that night justice. They
were all fantastic. But, I’ll do my best with the footnote that there will be more to come.
Pure: A hard rock band with tunes reminiscent of Kid Rock and Rage. The band has some fantastic
originals and the lead singer, when he can hold on to his mic, puts on a great show. Love the
dreads. Check them out at http://pure.koolhost.com.
.
Grudge: An alternative band from NY. The boys played the Revolutions Club Friday
night and Jeff asked them to hang around to do the show on Saturday. Good call Jeff.
These guys put on a great stage show and they have the hard-rock originals to support
their antics. I had the chance to interview the band’s lead man, Gerrick Phillips (an interview
that will get a future write-up). You’d never know that this soft-spoken guy is the same
person you see jumping and flailing around the stage. He has a great voice and great stage
presence. The band has great sound, reminiscent of Tool and Pantera. The guys play all
around the NY area, so check ‘em out when you get a chance. Also, check out their site
at www.grudge2000.com where you can see photos,
buy their CD and get their schedule.
Dead Leaves: These guys had, by far, the greatest fan base of the evening. I’d say more than
half the crowd was there to see them, a pretty great feat when you’re bylining for a national act.
The band’s lyrics were thought provoking and their music was mood evoking. They put on a really
great show and you can easily see why people come out to see them. Front man, Kris, is, to me, the
offspring of Martin Gore and Simon
LeBon and he has amazing stage presence. Jamie, Rich and Jay make up the rest of the band.
If you get the chance, get out and see them. Check out the band at www.deadleaves.com
and if you like you metal mixed with a little goth and a lot of soul, buy their CD. Thanks, guys, for
the interview. It’ll be up soon.
Throttle5: Ok, I’m a redhead. Ask anyone, it is damn HARD to change my mind.
But, Throttle 5 managed to do just that. I saw these guys about a year and a half-ago at
D’Alexanders and hated them. You know why? Because they played covers. Not that
covers are bad; there’s just a time and a place for them. They were the band I was least
looking forward to seeing at Revolution, but they turned out to be one of my favorites.
Their originals are great. The band’s sound is original but has a hint of Limp Biscuit in it.
These guys put on a great show and they have a refreshing sound. Check them
out at www.throttle5.com.
6Gig: The headliners of the night. National recording artist, 6Gig, performed last of the
evening. And it was well worth the wait. The show was loud, hard and heavy. The
CD is Tincan Experiment and the currently released tracks are Hit the Ground and
Yesterday. Thanks to the band for the interview. That will be up soon. For now,
check out 6Gig at www.6gig.com.
Nevermoure: Totally f**kin blown away by this band. They are, by far, some of
the best talent that I’ve seen in years. I don’t want to say too much yet because I’m
scheduled to go see them tomorrow night at the Crowbar in State College and you KNOW
I like them if I’m traveling 80+ miles on a “school” night. Seriously though, you HAVE TO
GET OUT AND SEE these guys. Amazing. Unfortunately, I can’t find a web site for them.
Don’t worry, I will ask them what the hell is up with that tomorrow.
[Ed. Note - the official site will be found at http://www.nevermoure.com,
and a fan site is up at http://clik.to/nevermoure]
Until then, stay tuned for more information on these guys, not only from me but
(according to my predictions) from everyone else in the rock world as well.
