Spotlight - Reemer
Being involved in the music business, as most musicians will tell you, is
one of the most unpredictable career choices you could ever be involved in.
Nothing is set in stone and even the best laid plans can come undone. On
the other hand, certain things happen even when they're not planned. Such
is the case with Reemer, a band that quickly realized that the things they
were looking for were right there in front of them.
Veteran drummer Don Hosler was in the early stages of what would be his
debut solo CD, "Boardwalk Of Broken Dreams," when he went out to catch a
Monkey's Uncle show. "Basically, I went to see them as a spectator," Hosler
explained. "The band was there, the drum kit was there, but, their drummer
was nowhere to be found. So, they asked me if I could do it. I looked over
their set list, told them what I could do and what I couldn't do and twenty
minutes later, we hit the stage."
Hosler eventually joined the band, on a temporary basis, until they could
find a replacement. Two months later, Monkey's Uncle recruited another
drummer and Hosler went back to work on his solo album. During the
recording process, a keyboard player was needed and, to return the favor,
Monkey's Uncle vocalist Jason Kyle went into the studio with Hosler to lend
his talents to the record.
A short time later, as Hosler's album was being released to the public,
Monkey's Uncle was calling it a day due to creative differences within the
band. Kyle then joined Hosler for a series of live performances that also
included select musicians who helped maked the "Boardwalk Of Broken Dreams"
album a reality. Since that was never intended to be a full time project,
Kyle formed another band, Reemer, with Monkey's Uncle bassist T.J. Taylor
and their old sound and light crew, guitarists Steve Moyer and Jeff Burns.
The two bands would come together at a benefit show...in more ways than
one. Prior to the event, Reemer parted ways with their original drummer
and, as fate would have it, Hosler found himself behind the drum kit once
again, performing twice in one night. After that, Hosler's band would
perform a few more shows before the musicians went their own way to pursure
other interests. A short time later, Reemer approached Hosler about joining
the band on a permanent basis and the rest, as they say, is history.
With the new line up finally intact, Reemer set out to make their mark on
the music scene. With three guitar players and four vocalists, the band
armed themselves with a wide range of material that includes classic rock,
eighties new wave dance music and top 40 rock favorites. The band also
performs original music from Hosler's album as well as songs written by
Kyle and Burns. They're determined to give their audiences a show that they
won't forget anytime soon and once they've built their name as a live act,
they'll enter the studio to record their debut album. "We'll know when the
time is right to do one." Hosler explained. "A disc will happen, but, for
now, it's all about the live show for us. We'll let that do the talking
and, we can promise you one thing...you won't be disappointed."
