Spotlight - Kristeen Young
A copy of Kristeen Young's fifteen song CD, "Enemy," was sent
to me quite some time ago and I'm finally getting around
to writing about it. I should have told you about this one
long ago. So, do yourself a favor and check this one out
because it's one of the most unique albums that you
will ever have the pleasure of hearing. While Kristeen's
music might bring up images of Tori Amos and Ani DiFranco
because, let's be honest here, there are certain elements
on this album that will clearly remind you of those two artists.
But, don't let that comparison rule your mind because Kristeen
is a highly original artist and her creative style is her own,
there's no doubt about that.
Her musical style is somewhat difficult to describe if you
haven't heard it for yourself. In my opinion, it's a compination
of rock and pop and I've also seen the art rock label thrown
her way in a review or two. It's clear to me that people
don't really know what to call it. A simple review that
would say it all would be this...it's just some damn good
music. What makes this release even better is the fact
that it's almost an hour long. So, when it comes to
being original, there's a lot of it on here to sink your teeth
into. Consider this, if music were a drug, you would overdose on this release.
Kristeen Young is a woman that deserves national exposure,
it's as simple as that. If you give her total artistic
freedom, complete and total control over her own creativity
and a huge budget, you would have a number one album
on your hands that would simply rule the charts.
I would bet money on that. I listen to countless albums
on a daily basis and every now and then, I pop something
into my CD player that makes me forget about everything else.
It catches my attention in a way that no other album
seems to be able to do. They come across my desk once
in a great while. "Enemy" is one of those albums.
Note: I noticed that the web page hasn't been updated in ages,
but, have a look around, see what you can find out and if
you can track down a copy of this disc...be sure to
grab a copy. You won't be disappointed!
