Furniture Music
I caught Furniture Music at the MMC and I was really impressed
with this band. Of course, I liked their music. Got a copy of
their fifteen song CD, "Satellite Life," and it's one I would
suggest checking out because there's some good stuff on this disc.
I spoke with Trish, the manager, and guitarist Chris Thomas
for quite some time, both after their performance and later
on in the evening back at the Hilton after the whole fire
alarm episode. I learned a lot during these conversations
and I was really into the way they operate. You see, there's
three main songwriters in the band. Chris Thomas, John Yakovou
and Jason Prince. Each guy has their own style and if they would
each form a band without the other members, each one could stand
on their own and they would be very different from each other.
But, instead of going in that direction, they all bring their
material into the band and, in the end, it all becomes a
Furniture Music song.
Since there's no ego involved as to who can write the better
song and since material from all three is used, well, you get
an album like "Satellite Life" and you're getting more for your
money. You're getting an album that features variety and a
lot of personality. It's not the same stuff from track to
track. It also carries over to the live show because they
all do lead vocals. So, your focus isn't on one guy for the
whole show. It's constantly changing and that keeps it fresh and interesting.
