Spotlight - The Afterglows
THE AFTERGLOWS "YOU DON'T KNOW THE HALF OF IT"
Okay, maybe we don't know the half of it.
So, let's talk about what we do know.
This twelve song release was put out
on DRP Records, which can only mean one thing...Frank Phobia
is gonna have a hand in it and it's gonna be a good
album and, sure enough, that statement is in fact correct.
I wasn't sure what my reaction to this album would be once
I heard that their music is a combination of pop, punk,
ska and metal. The key word there, which made me question
my reaction, is ska. I don't know, I just can't get into
that style of music. So, some of the more ska heavy tunes,
I couldn't get into. But, there's some stuff on here that
kind of reminds you of MXPX with the difference being
there's more of an edge to be found here. It's got a
raw feel, which I can really get into because, I don't
know about the rest of you, but, I dig that sound where it kind
of sounds like you're watching the band live. It's hard to really
get that sound because if it's too raw and it doesn't do the band
justice, well, you're left with a not so top quality production
and that's not a good thing. But, when you've got a producer
like Frank Phobia, let's take a look at a simple fact or
two here...the man knows his music and he knows the meaning
of hard work. So, any band that's lucky enough to work with him,
well, they can only benefit from it. Oh, before I forget, I
should also mention that The Afterglows are a trio because
that might mean something to some of you out there. Three guys,
one sound, one good album. Check it out if you're looking for
something that's just a bit different than your normal listening pleasures.
