Single Bullet Theory
When the legendary King Diamond came through Pennsylvania, I was on
the guest list for the show. I was there to do an article on the man who
many call the Stephen King of heavy metal. Of course, it was a great
show. Members of Balistic were also on hand to check it out and I spent
some time talking with them. But, they weren't the only Pennsylvania
musicians who were there that night. There was a band by the name of
Single Bullet Theory, who I spent some time with before the show. I was
talking to the drummer I believe. That's how I found out they were from
Pennsylvania.
I had the chance to check 'em out because they were the first band to hit
the stage that night. Yes, they were on tour with King Diamond. Gotta
respect a band that can get up there and put on an amazing show knowing
that King Diamond's gonna get up there and do his thing an hour or so
later. You have to be at the top of your game to share the stage with The
King.
I wasn't familiar with the music of Single Bullet Theory at this time.
Being a witness to their live performance was a fresh experience for
me...and I was impressed. They were at the top of their game. They put on
an exceptionally solid performance. The one thing that really stood out
was the vocalist. He went from one extreme to another, using his voice as
an instrument, which is something you don't see too often. He could sing,
he could scream, he could come exceptionally close to a death metal vocal
style and he could rip into a high note that would give Rob Halford a run
for his money. This guy was, in a word, amazing.
I recieved a copy of their current release, "Route 666," a
short time later and, you wanna talk about an explosive album, this is
it. It's pure metal...and high quality metal at that. Some might say you
could hear elements of thrash or hardcore in their music and, sure, I
might agree with that. But, I wouldn't wanna throw any other word out
there other than METAL!
"Route 666" might be considered a "short" album by
today's standards, as there's only ten songs to be found here. But,
regardless of how you view this release, SBT makes every second count.
There's not a weak moment to be found on the entire album. When you're
crankin' this release, it's like stepping in the ring with Mike Tyson
back in the day when it was almost suicidal to do such a thing...it's
like he's throwing a million punches and connecting with each and every
one of 'em. Get the picture?
If you're not familiar with Single Bullet Theroy and you like your music
with a lot of punch, I suggest picking up a copy of "Route 666"
as soon as you possibly can. Be prepared to be impressed.
