Styll
When you go out to a show, it pays to be social and talk to people
because you never know who you're gonna meet. That's how I came in
contact with STYLL. Back when I was writing for The Scene Monthly,
I went to a Dokken show and I talked to a lot of people that night. Not
sure how my conversation with John Harvan got started and, to be honest,
I even forget what we talked about that night. What can I say...I
happen to drink a lot. Anyway, we exchanged information and some time
later, I recieved a copy of STYLL'S debut CD, "Still Standing, Still
Strong."
For those of you who aren't familiar with STYLL, it features vocalist/guitarist
John Harvan and guitarist Rich Arieta. They've got a rather
interesting musical style, which I would describe as acoustic rock.
It's got that rock 'n' roll vibe, upbeat and very energetic. But, their energy
comes from an emotional level, if you know what I mean. The songs are
exceptionally well written and, regardless of who you are, I'm sure
there's a song or two on this release that you'll be able to relate
to on a personal level. You can't escape it, these songs touch you. There's no
way you can listen to this release and not be affected by it. It's a
very powerful release.
STYLL is a band that's dedicated to writing the best songs
they possibly can and, once the song is written, they perform each one to the best
of their ability. It's good to know there's a band such as STYLL out
there, making the Pennsylvania music scene look good.
Expect great things from this band. They will deliver.
