I expected to spend my Friday evening channel surfing all night, but my mom agreed to going to Gullifty's
with me to see Ivet, Nowhere Quick, and The Clarks. Melanie had to baby sit, but my mom and I
still decided to have a girl's night out. Before the show even started, we spotted various musicians
from the area such as Bryce and Larry from The Jellybricks as well as Kyle and Scott from Julian Fist.
We chatted with Scott for quite some time and both he and Kyle helped me persuade my mom to
come to their upcoming Gullifty's show. When Scott had come over to talk to us, he accidentally
spilled some beer on my sweater and pants, but neither of them noticed, so I just gently blotted it
and continued talking. I also spotted John Harris walking around as well as Jim from hbgonline.com,
so it was nice to see so many familiar faces.
Hailing from Ohio, Ivet soon took the stage. Normally opening bands don't get much of a reaction from
a crowd, but with their heavy, original sound they quickly began attracting fans. After getting much
applause, Nowhere Quick soon stole the stage and whipped out some new originals that fans will be
able to hear on their new album, expected to be out sometime in the late fall. The band had about four
cameras going around the crowd, videotaping the show for a new video project of theirs.
I was standing near Kyle and Scott and I tried to hide behind them once I saw the camera was
pointed in my atmosphere. That was my first time witnessing a Nowhere Quick show, and now I
understand why their popularity is quickly expanding. They have a diverse sound, full of plenty
of hooks and a touch of hard rock.
During the set break, it was a nice surprise to hear Julian Fist's "Pushing Audio Platinum" being
blasted out of the speakers. After a few songs the CD cut off, but it switched to a Coldplay
song, followed by a Travis song (two of my favorite bands), so I was quite pleased.
Soon the crowd became more rowdy and the room was packed to the extreme. The Clarks
took the stage and the devoted fans began mouthing along the words to their favorite
Clarks originals. My mom had a headache and after about four songs, we decided to leave.
Although I hadn't gotten to hear the two infamous Clarks songs, "Better Off Without You" or
"Chasing Girls," I knew I would be seeing them at Buzzfest so I wasn't going to complain.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing these guys again.
