Stuk and Next of Kin

We arrived at Tweeters and had assumed the performances would be inside. Nope. They were set up in the corner of the parking lot. Not knowing where to go, we decided to sit down on the bench between Gateway and Tweeters. Jut (Stuk’s bassist) came over and gave us Stuk’s demo CD (which we reviewed).

Before the music started, we moved to the curb by the doors of Tweeters to sit. It was so funny to watch all the guys (okay, maybe two girls) stand and not move except for an in sync head bob. Shannon actually took a picture (It was the only picture we took because we felt odd taking pictures in front of teenagers that we knew).

It wasn’t a good view of the band from where we were sitting. So when Melanie wanted to get her jacket out of the car, we both got up and when we came back, we sat on the corner with a clear view of all the band members of Stuk. Good performance!

The guitarist, John had been walking around while playing guitar, and he even waltzed into the busy road to leave us all impressed and fully entertained. If either of us tried that, I'm sure we'd be road kill in no time. Lead singer, Bill made a cheesy (yet amusing) pun by saying that John was "Stuk in traffic."

One of the guys from the X that were there looked like the guy from Snowblast that we kept giving pity looks to during Lifehouse. We call him yellow hat guy, but today he had some black thing on his head.

We looked around Tweeters for regular headphones and a tripod, but couldn’t find either. Outside, Jut came over and Rob (Stuk’s drummer) joined him to ask what we thought. But we were just forgotten when Brian from Flophouse showed up. Psh, we are more important than him. lol!

Up next was Next Of Kin (NOK), introduced by 105.7 the X's Nipsey. We expected them to sound heavy, but they were totally not. Lead singer and bassist, Brian lashed out some cool break dancer-esque moves.

It began to rain so Melanie decided to throw her leather jacket in the car. Then she had to pee, so we, well, Melanie ran down to Arby’s, Shannon walked. We came back out of Arby’s to discover the rain stopped. So Melanie got her jacket back out of the car. Shannon had been cold earlier, but she did not want to take Melanie’s hand-me-down country club sweatshirt.

NOK and Stuk both put on a great show, and the X team seemed to enjoy their music as well! We were definitely happy to be able to hear enjoyable local music, without having to wear a wristband and drag a parent along.

Off-topic note: We would like to thank Logan and Gwen of http://groupiefriend.tripod.com and http://bandaid502.tripod.com, for letting us use their photo of Ben (from the No Show Ponies) posing with the boa. Thank you!!
