Snowblast 2001 - Blue Marsh Ski Area - Saturday, March 10, 2001
Sorry Pete! Shannon's mommy didn’t realize she was going to interrupt
you and your wife's kiss by beeping the horn! Oops!
We couldn't handle skiing or snowboarding so we decided to hunt down
the snow tubing area. On our way there, Mitch of Julian Fist said Hi and
asked how we were :) We stupidly said hi back and mumbled something
along the lines of "jolly good!" and we ran off to hide at the snow tubing area.
It wasn't too difficult, but jeez was it muddy. We picked up snow tubes and tip
toed over the mud to be pulled up the hill. The hills there were a lot steeper
than at Ski Roundtop so we decided to hold on to each other's snow tubes
and go down the hill together. After squealing the whole time, we reached
the bottom and ran into some other kids in their tubes. Oops.
We went down two more times and decided to find some food. We thought
we'd each split a large fry and get some ice water, which they didn't have
so we had to venture over to the snack land. There weren't any tables to
sit at so we went outside to stand and munch on our oh-so-fantasgreat
french fries. We sat on the steps outside the ski equipment return.
Shannon's cup blew over from the evil wind and Shannon set it upside
down so it wouldn't blow away. As we sat there munching on some fries,
we noticed the cup was moving. It was hovering around and dancing in
the spilled water. We laughed at it for a couple of minutes, as we watched
it do a little jig. We wanted to throw away the cups so we stood up and
headed for the stairs to the land o' the Snowblast stage. Mitch said hi
again and we noticed all the good spots were being taken. We got a
semi-side spot and decided we weren't hungry anymore so Melanie
threw out more than half of the fries.
Pete came on at noon and we mini bopped. Shannon pointed out
BJ from Negative Space to Melanie and we were all jolly but had no
balls to actually say hi. Behind us was a white truck that seemed to
have problems moving. A bunch of guys, including BJ, were pushing
it up an incline. It would go up pretty far, but then slide back down towards
the crowd but nobody got hurt. Pshh, scaryness! Anywho, they eventually
got it to go. Some gal who looked semi-familiar came up to us and
starting asking us if we remembered her. Shannon drew a blank face
and Melanie couldn't hear her. After she said she met us at the
Saturday night MMC Hilton showcase, Shannon said, "Ohhh!!!!!!"
It took Shannon a couple tries to make Melanie realize who she was.
Shannon also noticed that her neighbors Anne and Greg
(big Pete Palladino/Badlees fans) were there. We waved hello
and Pete finished up with "Cruel to be Kind."
Julian Fist was up next. We had our same spots that we had for Pete,
but Greg and Anne had somehow moved their way over closer to the middle.
Joy from Gullifty's popped over and we said hi! She asked us if we were
coming to Gullifty's that night to see Negative Space. We sadly said no
because we didn't have a parent willing to take us. During Julian Fist's
set, Kyle told the crowd to go to Gullifty's to see Negative Space that night.
We were so being teased. Of course BJ had to be there, Joy had to ask
us about it, and Kyle had to mention it on stage. Humph. Julian Fist did an
all original set and we were all proud of them.
Since Clutch was up next, we decided to leave our spot and let Melanie buy
Julian Fist's self titled EP. We stood around and watched them sign
autographs and get pictures with some cute kids. They felt special.
Joe, our buddy from school came over and asked us if we knew
Julian Fist and we said yeah. So he asked us why don't you go up
and say hi? We said we couldn't because we don't have any balls.
Then he introduced us to his friend named ________. Yeah, we
forgot. Melanie was just looking around and Shannon saw Kyle
(Julian Fist). He extended his arm and pointed at Shannon, who
responded by moving her index finger and thumb together and
saying hello. We don't know how to describe it. Ok, put your pinky,
ring, and middle fingers down and put your index and thumb tips
together. Open, then close, then repeat. Yay, you did it!
After Clutch came on, we went to the loo. Then we went back and
scampered into the crowd so we could get good spots for Oleander
and Lifehouse. Our spot was a little closer to the middle than for
Julian Fist and Pete Palladino. Oleander took a while to set up and
get ready, but it was definitely worth it. They were jolly little fellows.
The lead singer had a cool hat with ear-flaps. The crowd decided it
was time for crowd surfing. Luckily, our wee selves weren't in danger
of getting people thrown over us because we were on the side more.
After they played, a guy was right in front of us to hand out free album
samplers. We had our hands out to get one, but he didn't see us I
guess. Aww no love for us.
Of course we stayed in our spot cause it was crowded and we had a perfect
view. People from the back kept pushing towards the front and therefore
pushing up the rope many more feet than where it originally was. The
rope stands were in the same spot, but the rope itself was stretched to
move closer the stage. We figured we didn't want to be squished into
the rope so we kept back about a foot from it. But we still had our spot.
Oh, but some tall evil fools had to plot to slip in front of us and block
our entire view for the entire set and encore of Lifehouse. Two
blonde girls who were taller than us slipped in with the tall evil
fools and left before the last song that Lifehouse did, so we got to
see them for one song. The gal behind us knew we could see
absolutely nothing and was talking to the guy with her and saying
how we had been there since the beginning and deserved to be in
the front to see. We kept giving a guy with a yellow hat from the
X pity looks. He would give them back too we think, but since
he had on sunglasses we couldn't tell. At one point Scott
(Julian Fist-er) was over on the side of the stage watching Lifehouse,
so we watched Scott instead of, umm, backs and X people. He was
all smiley and happy. Aww. We wished we could see:(
