Idle Ride
Live Alien Broadcast
Julian Fist
At Gullifty’s Underground in Camp Hill
Upon arrival Kyle from Julian Fist came out of the bar to the front desk.
He informed us that he had been there since that afternoon. He also
said they were taping that nights show. Later we found out they had taped
at the request of a record label. We received our big black Xs on our hands
and entered to claim a table. We did our hellos to Mitch and Scott of Julian
Fist and to Mike, JB, and Jason of Idle Ride. Mike gave each of us a copy
of their CD “The Words in Their Eyes.” Dave James was there too
of course to take photos for JF.
Since the place wasn’t all too busy, we amused ourselves with a game of pool - our
way. A guy, who turned out to be a roadie for Live Alien Broadcast, helped Shannon
and I learn how to hold the cue better and aim better. After our game, Troy and Scott
played. They were quite aggressive with those balls! They went flying off the
table on occasion. We sat and watched Scott beat a surprised Troy. Troy
told us he had taught Scott how to play pool and did not expect to see Scott
win. Popping in three more quarters, they played again. This game, Troy
won and was satisfied. Troy later played the LAB roadie as did others.
Thank goodness Troy didn’t see our attempt to play pool; he probably
would have been frustrated watching us.
Idle Ride opened the show on time and we sat on the floor to take photos
and enjoy the show. Angela from the Local Area Bands site walked
around and took photos too. Their set was made up of all originals.
During the second half someone sat down next to Shannon for a song
and asked her if we were enjoying the show because we didn’t look like we
were too into the music. She told him we were indeed enjoying the show.
Here is an excerpt from an Idle Ride letter that was sent out about this show:
"...we rolled into Harrisburg to play with some old friends
Julian Fist. They also brought along Live Alien Broadcast. It was so nice
to be back in Harrisburg. They have such a great music scene there and we
feel blessed when we get the opportunity to play there. Especially when it
is at Gullifty's Underground. I just can't say enough great things about
Julian Fist and want to take time to thank them again for letting us come up
and play. Great guys and a great band. The show was a real special event
for me. I had a lot of friends from around the area stop by that I have not
seen in a year. We played all originals and kept with some of our more
upbeat stuff because the other bands were a little more hard rock than we
are. We opened up with Soldier's Gun and Believe. I thought the show went
well and the crowd seemed to appreciate our sound. I urge all of our fans
to check out Julian Fist and Live Alien Broadcast when they get the chance.
Also check out this website www.thelab-pa.com. Angela from the lab took
some great pictures of us and I urge everyone to check them out."
(J.B. and the rest of Idle Ride)
LAB was on next and we found the Pennsylvania Musician out on the rack.
Paging through, we found Emily ToyBox’s ad featuring the eight-chinned Todd!
We flashed that around before LAB took the stage. Idle Ride gave us signed
posters during the break too. Mike mentioned his most recent painful
experience and we all gave him sad pity faces : ( LAB started their set
and not many were dancing as we had expected. One guy did get into
the music and started doing his own kind of funky dancing for everyone to
stare at. Later, more people filled the dance floor. We took a break during
LAB’s set and Melanie saved her seat with her PA Musician. When we
returned, her PA Musician was on the table and the chair gone.
So we sat over on the cushy seats along the wall where we could feel the
buzzing of the music through our seats. We recognized “Leaving Heaven”
from the Under the Radar radio show. Troy asked us how we liked LAB
with a huge grin. We couldn’t help but smile as he put his arms straight
out and thumbs up, raising them above his head. He then gave us his
prediction that they will be the next band to be signed out of the regional
area. The Idle Riders came over and discovered the foosball table.
We were able to snap a group shot with us after they all sat.
After the crowd cleared the dance floor, we claimed a spot between
Troy and Mitch, but closer to Troy. When the music started, the single
ladies had a ball doing their drunken dances over by Scott and Mitch.
Every so often one would wander over by us and rock out. The guy by
Shannon was sitting and the people behind us were standing pretty still,
but singing along. There were more dancers in the middle of the floor
than up front or on the side. They finished and we began to say our
good-byes to the Idle Riders. A chant began for a JF encore.
How could they resist! Kyle, Scott, Mitch, and Troy took to the stage
to perform one more song. They finished for certain the second time and
we said our good-byes again. Troy, who was sweated up by the first song,
came over. We told him we enjoyed the show and Melanie told him he
was a sweaty boy. Troy laughed and smiled, saying he sweats like a pig.
It was time to go and we headed home with our CDs, posters, and PA Musicians.
