Rockin' for the Red Cross benefit
Ye Olde Ale House
September 23, 2001

It was 8:30am and we were on the way to the Ye Olde Ale House with Shannon's dad. Upon our arrival, the lovely Shel Hoachlander greeted us and her son, Emmanuel and his friend soon arrived. We began to decorate the bar for the Red Cross benefit that took place from 10:30am-midnight. The bands that kindly volunteered their time and talent for the Red Cross were: Grumpy Old Men, Bullet, Mary Riley, Seventh Hour, Internal Fear, The Grimm, Stereo Logic, Hiltago Blue, No Show Ponies, Burning Blue, Shades of Black, Smak 9, Dixie Wrecked, Halestorm, and Balistic.

We helped out for a while at the merchandise stand with raffle tickets, t-shirts, and CDs that benefited the September 11th tragedy. Jeff and Ben Brown of the No Show Ponies kept us entertained at their table, as we watched the benefit grow more and more crowded with an extremely diverse crowd.

One of the highlights was Stereo Logic's acoustic rendition of Lennon's "Imagine." Everyone was handed a candle (thanks to Halestorm's Tommy boy!) and the vibe of the room changed into unification.

Liz Hale of Halestorm took on someone's request and performed the National Anthem. Halestorm and the No Show Ponies were our personal favorites, but we left before having the chance to see Bullet and several other bands perform.

Shannon's dad placed bids on a Coor's Light pool table light and a Red River mirror. He ended up winning both of his biddings, which he now shows off in his basement. The benefit raised over $10,000 and still counting. The support of sponsors such as Johnson & Johnson helped make the benefit have an amazing turnout. Although none of the aforementioned would have taken place without its mastermind, Shel Hoachlander.
