7:30am Sunday 12/31 - Happy New Year. Tons of good stuff tonight. I'll mention 3 quick: Martini Bros Downtown Harrisburg for the Strawberry Drop, Julian Fist at Gullifty's, 7 bands including Stone Jug at the Roadway Inn (The Old Courtyard).

6:00pm Thursday 12/14 - Good Radio today - right now listening to Emily's ToyBox live on WINK after hearing Pete of the Badlees live on the X. Way to go local radio - support that local music - keep up the good work.

3:30am Thursday 12/14 - The Toys For Tots Benefit at the Hilton Harrisburg and Towers on December 3 was great. Fun for the whole family. Good to see the next generation of fans rocking out. Got hours and hours of video, turned out pretty good. Tried to fight the video killer red gel with manual exposure, so a lot of the footage turned out dark, but I think I'd rather lose detail in the dark backgrounds than have the red gel blow out the faces. Red is a couple steps hotter than blue, which works really well for video. When you watch the video, you'll probably be able to tell where I was riding the manual exposure. Anyway, a lot of the flaws in the original (overdark) can be fixed in Premiere, but often the frame rate suffers in RealVideo. Eh, so be it. If they continue to use that nasty red gel, the video isn't going to turn out great. Check out the RealVideo. A total of 35 clips (so far) of (in order) Juiced, Halestorm, UUU, Poptart Monkeys, Darcie Miner, Martini Bros, Big Tubba Mista, Dead 50's, Emily's ToyBox. Some later clips aren't up yet. A tip for using the RealPlayer (G2 or above) - If you want to skip forward, use the playlist and select a later clip. Enjoy.

9:10pm Wednesday 12/13 - Well, Bush will be the next President. Gore admits this. My final (hopefully) thoughts on this whole mess. I'm probably not going to keep this up too long, or archive it. Here goes.

This was not the first election in the United States or in the State of Florida. The State of Florida, Palm Beach County, Broward County, etc. did not say on the evening of Tuesday, November 8 - "well, the polls are closed, and we have these ballots, what do we do with them? Do we use these machines we have here to count ballots, or do we count them by hand?" No, they used the machines they bought for the purpose of counting ballots to count the ballots. Why did they choose to use the machines to count the ballots instead of counting them by hand? Was it because the machines are faster? No. Was it because the machines are more accurate? No. They chose to use the machines to count the ballots because that is what the law says they have to do. They didn't have a choice about what to do with the ballots on Tuesday, November 8. There is a real law, written down on paper, that tells them exactly what to do regarding the ballots.

Ok, so, the machines counted the ballots Tuesday night, Wednesday morning. What happened? The machines worked fine. Yes, it's true, the machines did not count dimpled chads nor did they count pregnant chads. Does that mean that the machines were faulty, broken in some way? No. The machines were designed not to count dimpled chads or pregnant chads. What about those people who dimpled or made pregnant a chad? Are they being disenfranchised if their dimpled or pregnant chad is not counted as a vote? I'm sorry to say this, but, no. What if they seriously intended to vote for the candidate whose chad they dimpled? How could they know that the dimpling would not count as a vote? The instructions were printed right on the ballot. I'm sorry that some people didn't follow the instructions printed on the ballot, but that's no reason to count the pregnancy or dimplization of a chad as a vote, especially when a vote is defined as the full removal of a chad. Anyway, enough of that.

The point of the above is this: (sorry for the shouting) THERE WAS NO REASON TO HAND COUNT BALLOTS. The machines worked adequately, as they were designed to do. End of story, or so it would seem. However, there were hand counts as you all know, and the last month has been a constant battle (now over, thankfully) about whether to have hand counts, where, and by what standards.

The question that I've had on my mind is this: why did we have hand counts? Maybe someone could answer me on this. We had hand counts in certain areas of Florida because ... (link here to post answer). I've heard people say things like "intended to vote" and "every vote must count" and I've had plenty of screaming matches with plenty of people about those slogans. I've found that those slogans were very easily defeated.

"Intended to vote." So what. Elections are not about counting intents they're about counting votes. What about all those people who intended to vote, but forgot to do so, forgot to register, or just got too busy?

"Every vote must count" and "count all the votes" Of course. However, non-votes mustn't count. Dimpled chads are non-votes. It says on the ballot how to make a vote. The people who dimpled their chad did not do what the ballot said to do to make the vote. They did something to the ballot, true. What they didn't do was vote.

"Intended to Vote" and "every vote must count" are utterly ridiculous arguments, yet were said by people who are presented by the media as respectable people with valid opinions. The media also presented that argument as valid. It's very dangerous to our collective sanity when utter BS like this is presented as responsible, and has been infuriating to me when used in argumentation by otherwise rational people. Back to music.

1:00am Sunday 11/12 - This election is maddening. It certainly appears that the current set of circumstances is being analyzed in 2 wildly divergent ways. The mainstream/TV/liberal approach is that the ballots in Palm Beach County were confusing. So confusing, in fact, that they were fraudulent and/or illegal. Also, that's somehow the Republicans fault. The thinking by some is that there should be some sort of re-vote. The other, internet/ conservative approach is that there was massive voter fraud by the Democrats, and the votes in many states should be checked to make sure that all the votes were cast by persons eligible to vote, those persons only voted once, there was no tampering with the ballots, and there was no coercion or bribery of the voters. Check this site for a good example of this viewpoint. The important thing, I think, about all this is that believers of either of the 2 theories see the others arguments as utter BS - completely nonsensical, and politically motivated. What is happening now is a powerful argument in favor of public apathy, because if everyone happened to care deeply and passionately about the outcome, and believed strongly in one of these 2 theories about what happened with the election, people would be at each other's throats constantly, and there might actually be violence. Fortunately, only about half the US Citizens eligible to vote actually voted, and many of those voters are not passionate about the outcome.

10:30pm Wednesday 11/8 - WIN 2 TIX TO SEE JIMMIE'S CHICKEN SHACK AT FIDDLESTYX THIS FRIDAY!
Trivia question: What national band played at Fiddlestyx in October 1999? Be the first person to e-mail parocks@parocks.com with the answer and you and guest will be on the list. More trivia questions for pairs of tix to come. Must be 18+ to win.

4:00am Saturday 11/4 - I'm listening to Velvet Monkeys - Rake again. (Over and over) I know that Function 45 are big Mascis fans, so I'm not the only one who cares. Function 45. Jay probably does as well. How about a Velvet Monkeys reunion at MMC? Whaddya think Jay? If you get J., Thurston, Don on board, I'll bat you at the best spot - MAIN STAGE - THE PODIUM THE PODIUM. Maybe national coverage, Rolling Stone, "The Return of the Slacker Cool" etc. etc. Jay, you might be able to make that happen.

7:00pm Tuesday 10/31 - The last day of voting (I think) and Dragon Fire from Altoona is number 2 on FarmClub.com. Click on Cutting Dead Weight and then Vote (one time per day, per computer) http://www.farmclub.com/vote/fc5.shtml earlier today they got 6653 and number 2 has 6519. Now number 1 has 11754 and Dragon Fire has 11317 - vote today, thanks. Jim Rhoads Action and Cotton, 2 good PA Bands did well in the recently completed Garageband.com contest that Mercy River won. Cotton finished at 41 and Jim Rhoads Action at 72.

3:30am Friday 10/28 - Dragon Fire from Altoona still number 1 on FarmClub.com. Click on Cutting Dead Weight and then Vote (one time per day, per computer) http://www.farmclub.com/vote/fc5.shtml Mercy River won - Let's help make Dragon Fire win too.

Saw UPC at Kokomo's Friday night. They were solid - I loved the fact that they played an Emily's ToyBox cover.

7:00pm Friday 10/27 - From the Mercy River e-mailer - "Hey Everybody...We did it!! Thanks to everybody that participated in the garageband.com reviewing process. After all the smoke cleared Mercy River managed to hold onto the #1 spot to secure the $250,000 recording contract! How cool is that!! I'm sure everybody's participation helped. Thanks, we couldn't do it without you!!!" Congratulations to Mercy River.

5:30am Friday 10/27 - Dragon Fire from Altoona still number 1 on FarmClub.com. Click on Cutting Dead Weight and then Vote (one time per day, per computer) http://www.farmclub.com/vote/fc5.shtml If they stay number 1 till the end of the month, they go on National TV - The FarmClub.com TV show on USA networks. Please help 'em out.

Mercy River from Philadelphia still number 1 on GarageBand.com. Go to http://www.garageband.com, sign up, log in, listen to music, then rank the songs you hear from 1 to 5 and add additional comments about the song. The winner is the band with the highest rating. If they stay number 1 till the end of the month, they get a $250,000 recording contract. Please help 'em out.

Although there's been a bunch of action on the message board, some think that because there's so much action, it's getting difficult to find the stuff they're looking for on the message board. Because of this, I'm setting up threads here that deal with specific topics. They're standard threads, so they'll be accessable directly from the message board, but they'll also be accessable here, so they won't get lost in the shuffle after 3 or so days. Musicians Wanted / Available - Singer, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboard - hope this makes it easier for you.

10:00pm Friday 10/20 - Mercy River is #1 on GarageBand.com - so, 2 PA Bands in the #1 slot in both GarageBand.com and FarmClub.com. Good Deal.

5:30pm Friday 10/20 - Save Hiesters - D'arey October and a bunch of other bands are playing there Saturday night 10/21. Someone broke an expensive window there, and if they don't get the money for a new window pronto, no more all age shows at Hiesters. It's important that all age venues stay open, not just for Reading, but for all over (trade dates, etc.) PA Band Dragon Fire is number 1 on FarmClub currently. Love the prizes of FarmClub, not so pleased about the fact that they break the in links about every 2 months. I like the new Video by Spinebelt "Release the Hive." It's good to see the excitement surrounding the Bead, Throttle 5, Diamond Girls at Fiddlestyx this Saturday.

5:30pm Friday 10/10 - Ralphstock, Martinis at Appalachian, Badlees and Katie Did... at White Oak.

1:00am Tuesday 10/10 - A happy 17th birthday today to Liz Hale of Halestorm and Darcie Miner.

1:00am Saturday 10/7 - I want to mention Ralphstock again - a very good benefit.

6:00am Saturday 9/30 - Here's news - Toys for Tots Benefit - Hilton Harrisburg and Towers - Martini Bros, Halestorm, Big Tubba Mista, Poptart Monkeys, Emily's ToyBox, Darcie Miner, UUU, Partial Post, Locke, more? There will be a website about this event. October Baby / G4 - In Philly, this seems like a good event. UXB - formerly Star Seed Speed - does a really good job of knowing how to work all of those online good prize contests. Get on their email list. 8) Ralphstock - October 14 - a great benefit for a great cause - Martini Bros., Hexbelt among others - Ed Van Wicklen - Kind Web is where you go for the best info on that. D'arey October on Real World MTV - I don't know much about that, but I got it in an e-mail from them. People, just sign em. Bead has a CD Release coming on soon.

6:30pm Monday 7/31 - Big Tubba Mista opening for Governor Bush tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4 pm tomorrow at the Capitol in Harrisburg. Message for Partying Republicans in Philadelphia: Plenty of good music for you to enjoy during your stay in Philadelphia. You might want to check the Philadephia section of the Schedule Page.

6:30pm Thursday 7/27 - Go see Nectar (RealVideo) tonight at Murph's Other Bar. It's their last show. Hardy, the drummer is moving to Miami in a week and Caroline is moving to Los Angeles in a month. Caroline Rothwell is an amazing talent, a star, and I wish them all the best of luck. It appears that they have a fresh new song "Naughty Kitty" now in the works, so you may be catching them later, but for now, they will be missed.

1:30pm Wednesday 7/26 - Go see The Gliders tonight at Gullifty's.

6:00pm Friday 7/21 - Congrats Starseed Speed.

11:00am Friday 7/21 - Starseed Speed is currently #1 in Garageband.com for the opening slot for the Limp Bizkit show (tonight?) in Raleigh, NC. Vote for 'em (it's trickier than FarmClub.com) - but here are some GarageBand.com links to get you some info on how to do it.
Click on Review Now for Raleigh
Current Raleigh Rankings
Other PA bands in this particular Limp Bizkit / Raleigh contest are Mushcup (#18) Kwin MD (#24) Poptart Monkeys (#27, and winner of June PA Rocks best band vote) Quasimofo (#30).

9:30am Monday 7/17 - New RealVideo pages in the last 2 months: Bonepony, The Commercials, Full Effect, Liquid Sex Decay, Nectar, Playn Jayn, Sound Universoul, Stone Jug, Styles Murphy. 3:30am Friday 7/14 - Saw Pete, Jeff and Ron (Badlees) and Bonepony at the Ye Olde Ale House tonight. They jammed together for about an hour. Magic moments - everyone was excited about this jam session.

5:00pm Thursday 7/13 - X Day in the Park - Saturday, August 12 - Reservoir Park - Fuel, Stir, Earth to Andy, The Clarks, One Way Ride. Big show - FREE.

5:00am Saturday 7/8 - Congratulations to Tony Basti, who is getting married today.

6:00pm Wednesday 6/28 - The Celebration of Life - The Tiffanie Salvadia Benefit that took place last Sunday at the Appalachian Brewery was a great success. All of the musicial acts were great. There were a lot of people there, and from that financial aspect I would think it would be a success, but I don't know the final numbers on that. The Appalachian Brewery seems to me to be a real good place for a long benefit of that sort, as it's both big in its capability to hold large numbers of people and small in that the actual rooms with the bands aren't too huge. Good place to have a benefit. And as a side note I'll add that it'd been a quite a while since I saw Full Effect, and they rocked it ... 1st time up at Fiddlestyx to see a show on Saturday - saw D'arey October - they kicked ass - played longer than what I'm used to seeing from them - very good, they played some songs I hadn't heard live before or for a while. Everyone was very pleased. Martini Bros CD release party at Gulliftys last Wednesday was a success. People seemed to like the video I edited from footage shot in Venice Beach, CA earlier this month by the Bros/Harris/Doug. 1st video I edited, so psyched that people liked. Stone Jug is a new client - watch for a gradual redesign of the site over the next few weeks - plenty more realvideo and all the rest. Upcoming - the American Musicfest in downtown Harrisburg is the biggest yet - 5 days of music. Plus plenty more great music - check the schedule page.

11:00am Friday 6/9 - Politically active Lehigh Valley band Poker Face organizes rally in support of freedom. Check out this article in today's Morning Call which ran on the front page of the local section. Support Poker Face, support freedom.

6:00am Thursday 6/1 - Congratulations to Kartune for winning the PA Rocks contest for May. There's a new PA Rocks Voting page up at parocks.com/voting, where you can look at May's final results, and vote in the June contest. Also, there's a whole slew of direct links to FarmClub songs by local bands. A strong recommendation to send your people to this page when you're hyping FarmClub, if all or most or many of the bands on the FarmClub list ask their fans to vote for them - and also other bands - and they do that - PA will clearly rock the nation - which is of course part of the reason why PA Rocks is here. Lets go team!

Take a look at this! Wednesday's at Gulliftys - live original music! How about June 7 Tim Reynolds, guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band - June 14 The Polins and Wayne Supergenius - June 21 The Martini Bros. CD Release Party - Trans-Mission - 1st Day of Summer that's a guaranteed supercool scene - June 28 Stone Jug, Into the Woods. That's Wednesday people. Official word from PA Rocks "It's all good".

And the benefit of the year is: Celebration of Life - The Tiffanie Salvadia Benefit Tammi Taylor is, and has been, the best in the area at organizing benefits, and this one is no exception. Sunday, June 25 at the Appalachian Brewing Co, the benefit features The Martini Bros., Hexbelt, Big Tubba Mista, Clove and many other great acts. Check the web site. Thanks.

5:00am Tuesday 5/23 - Contact parocks@parocks.com about a gig on Saturday- could be super.

Lots of GREAT LIVE MUSIC HAPPENING.

4:00pm Sunday 5/21 - Vote PA Rocks top PA Band / Artist. Bring it on home for the locals in the Top 10 Vote Julian Fist - FarmClub, Vote Trap Door - FarmClub, Vote Mary Prankster - iTurf - all top 10's, all great prizes.

Packed house for The Badlees last night at Gullifty's.

6:00am Friday 5/19 - People really seem to like voting. Vote PA Rocks top PA Band / Artist. Bring it on home for the locals in the Top 10 Vote Julian Fist - FarmClub, Vote Trap Door - FarmClub, Vote Mary Prankster - iTurf - all top 10's, all great prizes.

Vertigo Fest was great, there were many great bands that played, and many that didn't because of the rain. It was good to see D'arey October play before their fans at home base. They ruled and their new songs (for the 7 inch) are great. A lot of people were on the scene - good to meet P-Wavers after talking with them and emailing em. Larry of the Jellybricks was there, good to see him. And, all the bands and the like. I was there with the Millenium Music Conference, we sold some CD's, announced the dates of next year's conference (February 15-18, 2001) Totally cool scene. Frank and Stacey do a great job with the event, and are doing a great job with Hiester's, Vertigo Music, et al. in Reading. Looking forward to next years.

Martini Bros. new CD Trans-Mission is coming out June 21. Haven't heard the full CD yet, but they play a lot of the songs live, so I know it'll be a great CD. The Badlees are on the soundtrack of the major Hollywood movie "Boys and Girls" which will be out soon. Katie did... has been in the studio working on their 1st CD and there seems to be a lot of excitement about it, and I'm looking forward to it. Spinebelt just released "The Throne Of The Hive" a CD that metal fans will definitely like. Produced by Marshall Deasy, it sounds great. Keep your eye out for a bunch of good things from Bon Fuhrer in the near future.

11:30pm Friday 5/12 - FarmClub.com - Vote Julian Fist and Vote Trap Door. As of today, Julian Fist (South Central PA) and Trap Door (Lehigh Valley) are tied at 6. Vote for both, please. Vote Julian Fist and Vote Trap Door - thank you.

6:00pm Friday 5/12 -
julian fist
Look at the above banner - Today, Friday, May 12, Julian Fist is 6th in the FarmClub.com voting. The winner appears on National TV - Monday nights, 11 pm, the USA network, on the Farm Club TV show hosted by Matt Pinfield. In my estimation, that's a really big deal. Please, please vote. Once a day, every day. It's important for the local, PA scene to get as much action as possible. From now on, any time a PA act gets top 10 on FarmClub, a nice direct link to the vote page and an appeal to vote will appear here. So, click on the above banner, then click on "put this on TV". Thank you.

Vertigo Fest is tomorrow (Saturday) - it's gonna be a 100% rocking time - Anthrophobia, D'arey October, Eastside (from Mass., they appeared on FarmClub TV), Martini Bros., Mary Prankster, and plenty more. Find the Vertigo web site at http://home.talon.net/~vertigo/fest.htm

3:00pm Tuesday 5/9 - Well, keep on Voting. It's been quite a bit more popular than I thought (over 2000 votes in the last 2 days). Fiddlestyx is a good club, they've got Quiet Riot coming in on June 1, so for that it's worth sitting at the computer voting over and over. However, FarmClub.com gives you a killer prize. You appear on national TV on the FarmClub.com TV show Mondays 11:00pm on the USA network. They just changed their voting policy. One vote per day. I don't know how many days of voting those totals reflect, but in my comparison of current and yesterday's totals (here) it seems that 50-60 votes a day will get you on the top ten. In addition, it appears that the same techniques used to hype you vote totals on my vote page may very well work on the Farmclub.com site. The daily totals on PA Rocks vote attach to the IP address that you're using - change the IP address (by getting off-line then getting on-line again) and your daily total will reset to zero. If FarmClub.com voting works the same way, you potentially can vote many times a day by getting on and off line - or for AOL users, switching back and forth between screen names. The FarmClub.com voting process may not work in this manner, however. In order to appear as a new user (registration is not required at FarmClub.com) it is likely a good idea to turn cookies off and to empty your cache. I can say that last night on the Farm Club TV show there was a band from Florida on called Monster Zero. Their performance on the show (a full song, live on stage from LA, right after Beck) was their 1st live performance ever, and the drummer (I believe) was the only person in the band even aware of the existence of FarmClub until he notified the other band members that they were slated to appear on the TV show. So, yes, FarmClub.com is doable (and SEV got signed through FarmClub). Another possible method to get the requisite number of votes is to send your FarmClub.com artist page URL HERE. I'll take that info and put together a page that people would use to easily access all the different FarmClub.com acts/songs and could vote for all the PA acts/songs easily and efficiently. I would hope that all the acts on the list would vote for all of the acts, leveraging the power of the network to get a bunch of PA acts on the top ten and ultimately on national TV. I want to see PA acts on FarmClub.com. Go do it.

7:00pm Sunday 5/7 - Vote for the top Pennsylvania Band/Artist. PRIZE FOR MAY WINNER - Gig at Fiddlestyx Friday, June 9.

11:30pm Tuesday 5/2 - New PA Rocks features: 1) Vote for the top Pennsylvania Band/Artist - add your favorite Band/Artist - vote up to 5 times a session. 2) Sign up for the E-Mail List to the left or on any PA Rocks Network site and get a weekly update in pretty cool html email on the latest from PA Rocks and the members of the PA Rocks Network.

3:00am Thursday 4/20 - A couple of good opportunities for guitarists. Both Halestorm and Darcie Miner are seeking guitarists. Halestorm's looking for fun, yet serious, 17-25, no drugs or alcohol. Darcie's looking for a great guitarist with the right vibe, I think with the ability to play slide. I can say that these are real good opportunities, as there's a real good chance that one, the other, or both are going to be moving on to the next level, getting signed, that kinda thing. Go to the sites to contact them.

6:00am Friday 3/31 - A bunch of noteworthy stuff: Congrats to SEV (although from the Fairfax, VA area, they played at the Millenium Music Conference in Harrisburg in February) for getting signed to Farmclub/Interscope records. This news is fairly hot off the press - apparently they signed the K on Wednesday at 7p. Live has a new video out for "Run to the Water." Bloom Box and Nectar reunions - 4/8 at Murph's and 4/21 at Gullifty's - joined by Amy Simpson at Gullifty's - Amy's at the Harrisburg Hilton tonight. More on the Bloom Box, Nectar, Amy Simpson show at Gullifty's on the 21st later. Eastside is in from Boston this weekend and are playing shows with Anthrophobia and other bands tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. Grape Street Pub just released a live acoustic CD. Hmmmm, wonder if any recordings were made of the MMC2000 bands at Gulliftys? The John Faye Power Trip is touring with Matthew Sweet down south. Plenty of stuff on tax day. Looks like a good show in Philly, at the Pontiac, on the 15th. The 1st in a series of concerts featuring female artists - called G4 - is being organized by Lisa Bouchelle of October Baby, whose band will appear at the show. Well structured e-mail / cover letter / press release tipping me off to the event. A general tip - a good thing to do is to write something personal-like telling me why that particular event is a good one, then below that put something that I can cut out of the email and paste as a txt file. Also appearing in April at the Pontiac (on the 28th) are The Martini Bros and Mary Prankster - that'll be good. In Pittsburgh - also on April 15 - at the 31st St. Pub are Charm School Confidential and Team Shorty. This'll be good - you've heard about Shorty here - see left and below - Charm School Confidential played with TS 2/5 at Gullifty's - they rocked - Charm School Confidential's bassist, Eric Vermillion, was in Gumball with Jay of TS. I hear 31st Street Pub is a cool place. Another show on the 15th, in the Harrisburg area. The Commercials are one of what appears to be 23 bands appearing at 20 Minute Fest 2, a hardcore, punk, emo fest. Starts at 11 AM, $6 (that's 25 cents a band) at the Monroe Township Building outside of Mechanicsburg PA. Ok, that's enough for now.

8:30am Thursday 3/16 - Great weekend for music this weekend at Gullifty's - parocks.com/gulliftys - (2 PA Rocks Nights, Friday and Saturday).

Friday is of course St. Patrick's Day and St. Patrick's Day is usually one of the biggest party nights of the year and this year it falls on a Friday. Well, it's the Martini Bros. - martinibros.com. Should be rockin' hard - awesome party fun. Most of you from Harrisburg, Lancaster, York know that the Martini Bros. are the local kings of original music - what you might not know is that they've added a touch of power pop to their potent surf, garage, rockabilly mayhem combo. Check the Bros. at Harrisburg Home Base on St. Patrick's Day. Opening is Ephrata based Wondercrush wonderlandpresents.com in what I believe is their Gullifty's debut - I think they're good, but I can't promise you.

Saturday is another great show, also a PA Rocks night, that I'm excited about. You might have read what I've had to write about Team Shorty - parocks.com/teamshorty (see below) - I will add to what I had to say below that I'm doing the above web site for Team Shorty, the CD release show on 2/5 rocked and grooved hard, and they've got Mark Brown (ex Star Radio, Bloom Box, Handsome Uncle Johnny, more) on bass for his first show w/ Shorty. Immediately preceding Team Shorty is Andrew McCutcheon and Periphery - www.mp3.com/andrewmccutcheon. Andrew McCutcheon and Periphery have a kinda Beck, Doors, Byrds sound going on, you might have heard them on the River 97.3 Sunday Night 3/12 at 10:00 pm, they are a frequent chart topper on MP3.com, Andrew and Jay go back to the DC punk days, and their new CD "Second Sun" / "Welcome to the Periphery" has just been picked up for distribution by NMX Records out of San Francisco. Velcro Mary - www.angelfire.com/pa/m8br/velcromary.html - has been a personal favorite of mine for quite a while. They have a lo-fi / indie sound that fits smackly in the middle of the dino/seb area of the music world. This is their 1st show back at Gullifty's since August of last year and this is their 1st show period since that show - they broke up and are back.

So, go to Gullifty's Friday 3/17 for the Bros. - the best St. Patrick's Day Party in town, and Saturday 3/18 for 3 great bands. Then don't even think of saying that there aren't great bands in this area - just come on out and support them.

Also, after the great Friday and Saturday at Gullifty's, check out D'arey October - parocks.com/dareyoctober - at X-treme CD in Exeter on Sunday at 5:00 - Free. This band should be signed pronto, and they won't be playing again until Vertigo Fest in May.

11:30pm Wednesday 3/8 - Congrats to Negative Space for winning the opening spot at the 105.7 the X Springfest 2000

2:30pm Saturday 2/19 - There has been a lot of discussion recently about how to sell CD's and related merchandise online. For those artists that want the most $ for their CD, the old-fashioned way does the job best. Simply give an address on your web site for customers to send a check or money order to. Or, set up facilities for handling credit cards in house. You would have to handle order fulfillment (S&H).

On the other end of the spectrum is The Orchard. For a one time fee of $40 per title, and 30% per unit sold, The Orchard will handle online credit card processing of your sales as well as order fulfillment. One important advantage of The Orchard is that they have an exclusive relationship with Valley Media, the distributor for Amazon, CD Now and many others. If you go with The Orchard, you will get, in effect, national distribution of your CD, in that your CD will be available not only through Amazon, CD Now, etc., but can be easily ordered at many, if not most, record stores in the US. A potential drawback to the Orchard / Amazon online distribution strategy is that it seems (and I haven't looked closely at the numbers) that the artist does not get that high of a % after the Orchard and Amazon and S&H are paid. But, I strongly suggest that you make your CD available through The Orchard, even if you do not make this your primary online distribution method, as the truly national reach of The Orchard makes it quite an asset to the artist. Simply follow the instructions on the Orchard site here where they'll tell you to send an email to join@theorchard.com after which you'll fill out an application, then send them $40 and 12 CD's.

3:00pm Wednesday 1/26 - Good show at the Rusty Nail in Harrisburg on Friday. Halestorm and Darcie Miner. My understanding is that Darcie will play a shorter set, then Halestorm will play a longer set - and alternate like that from 9 to 1 or so. Check out their web sites at halestormweb.com and darcieminer.com.
4:30pm Friday 1/14 - SUPER FRESH MILLENIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE INFO - a bunch of other stuff is going to have to wait a couple days - Check out D'arey at Heisters on Sunday - CD Release Party - and the X Millenium Melee on Saturday
6:30pm Friday 1/7 - D'AREY OCTOBER / HALESTORM UPDATE - D'arey cancelled out of the Gullifty's show tonight due to illness. They still expect to play tomorrow at Fiddlestyx. Halestorm will be playing at Gullifty's instead of D'arey. Halestorm goes on at 12 midnight.
10:30am Thursday 1/6 - BIG MONTH FOR D'AREY OCTOBER. A handful of opportunities to see D'arey October in the next couple weeks. They've got a new CD out "D'arey October's Guide to Teenage Glamour". Your 1st opportunity to buy it is at Gullifty's tomorrow (Friday) where they're opening for Jump the Gun. Then, the next night (Saturday), they're at Fiddlestyx opening for Cool Daddy Groove. Then, on January 16, their official CD release party is at Hiester's in their hometown of Reading with Rusty Nails, The Unraised and Blend. D'arey October does not play a lot of shows in the area, so try to catch them at one of these 3.
