1:00am Monday 8/9 -Second PA Rocks Night.
Gullifty's - Thursday August 12.
2 cool bands - D'arey October and Anthrophobia. Those of you from the Harrisburg area might be most familiar with D'arey October and Anthrophobia from when they played with Godsmack at the City Island Pavillion in February 1999 for the Millenium Music Conference. Anthrophobia went on right before Godsmack and D'arey October went on right before Anthrophobia. Due to scheduling issues, I got there too late to see D'arey October, but got to see Anthrophobia. Very ferocious music - hundreds of fans jumping up and down, smacking into each other, quite a sight to see. Anthrophobia is a national act (based out of Reading, PA, as is D'arey October), signed to Oxygen records, have sold over 10,000 CD's, and have played on the Warped Tour. I was very disappointed to have missed D'arey October's set, as there was quite the buzz for them, but they went on earlier then scheduled, what can you do? But I did get the chance to talk to them and to get a CD "Fighting the Moon". Often one hears in reference to a young band (and D'arey is a young band - 2 are in high school and one just graduated) that they're promising, that with some work, they could be top level. Well, with D'arey October, and "Fighting the Moon", we're talking about a CD that needs very little if anything to be released (except more songs, as the CD is 6 songs long). Basically, I would characterize D'arey October as Heavy Modern Rock, but with piano on some songs, and an occasional pop feel. I've heard them compared to Garbage, as well. (I'm not that good at comparing and the like) Do check out their web page - http://parocks.com/dareyoctober - their album is up in streaming realaudio and there are a bunch of video clips. This band should be signed - come to the show Thursday 8/12 and find out what I'm talking about. - Jim Lott, PA Rocks

3:45am Wednesday 8/4 -The Venues section is up. 100 PA music venues with web pages are represented. Send any other Venue links to PA Rocks.

3:15am Wednesday 7/20 -First Millenium Music Conference Organizational Meeting - PA Rocks Night.
Gullifty's - Thursday July 22.
The meeting is at 8 pm. If you have any ideas about the next Millenium Music Conference, be there to share them. Would you like to help out? Be there to help make the fourth annual Millenium Music Conference the best ever. Special announcements planned. This is a meeting to go to.
Then, catch 2 cool bands - Poker Face (9:30) and Velcro Mary. Poker Face is probably the leading truth / freedom band in the nation. They have played numerous rallys in DC and elsewhere, appearing on national TV, revealing the truth about our modern political condition. Make sure you talk to Paul, get on his e-mail list to find out what's really going on.
Velcro Mary is cool. They've been compared to Sonic Youth, Pavement, Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr. by critics. They (Jason Erb mostly/especially) are about D.I.Y. / Lo-Fi . I really like VM. I have listened to their Goodbye, Cowboy more often in 1999 then any other CD / tape.
PA Rocks nights are about new, different, interesting music - not finding the latest hit single. Go there, I'll (Jim Lott) be there taping and talking to you.

12:30am Wednesday 7/20 -Have had serious computer problems on this end. If you've sent e-mail to parocks@paonline.com or JOLIII@aol.com since Sat. 7/17, it won't be seen for a while. Send e-mail to parocks@parocks.com.

7:00pm Thursday 6/10 - The rolling new, improved redesign of the PA Rocks site begins. The new PA Rocks covers the entire state of PA. For those of you who prefer the earlier form, it will remain available at parocks.com/old/ and parocks.com/north. I do not anticipate any changes being made in the /old/ and the /north/ sections - they will serve as time capsules of a sort. You might find some broken links, or the old pages may remain up for a while. The new additions will be announced here. The number of links to bands and clubs will be vastly greater than prior to the redesign, and many more types of pages will appear in the links section. The schedule will be updated (finally), and will contain dates that PA Rocks receives. So, if you'd like to see your date appear on the schedule, send it on in to parocks@paonline.com. There will also be numerous links to other schedule pages throughout the state. Articles and/or reviews will be written, so feel free to send in a CD for a review. So, as of Thursday, 7:00 pm, 6/10, the updated section is Bands A-D. There are 316 bands/artists page links on Bands A-D. Bands E-H is coming Sunday 6/13 7:00 pm. I hope you enjoy the new PA Rocks.
